Event “Strengthening the Solar Industry”
On March 2, 2017, the Institute of Renewable Energies of the UNAM (IER-UNAM), with the financing of the Institutional Fund for Regional Development for the Scientific and Technological Development and Innovation (FORDECYT) of CONACyT through project 190603: Study on the use of solar energy in residential, industrial and commercial applications in different States of the country, will carry out the event “Strengthening the Solar Industry “.
From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., representatives of the government, business and industrial sectors will meet at the Hotel Las Quintas to meet some of the achievements and impacts of the IER-UNAM-led project that can provide services to the Industry in Mexico.
At the outset, the services offered to the industry will be presented by the Laboratory for Testing Solar Heating Equipment (LAPECAS) for the evaluation of solar collectors and solar thermal systems, and will show some of the achievements of the FORDECYT project whose services are now offered through LAPECAS, such as: 1) Development of Solar Calculators, for housing, for the commercial or industrial sector and for swimming pools, 2) Special consulting for large users, 3) Free software workshop for the calculation of SOLCOSI and 4) Real-time monitoring of solar thermal systems (example, the one installed in the Hotel Las Quintas).
The objective of sharing these results is for attendees to know the services that LAPECAS can offer to the government, business and industrial sectors in the area related to collectors and solar thermal systems ranging from design, optimization, thermal evaluation and integrity testing From systems to tools for the design and implementation of technical-economic studies (solar calculators) of specific projects for end-users of these technologies.
Finally, IER-UNAM will share, within the demonstration plants that the FORDECYT project has carried out, the link with the Hotel Las Quintas, with which they inaugurated in 2015 a solar system made up of 3 subsystems to provide hot water to the laundry, Sections of hotel rooms and swimming pools. All these systems are monitored in real time and are freely accessible to any user to promote the use of these technologies and show that they are viable and can have a positive impact on the economy, the environment and society as a whole.
The event “Strengthening the Solar Industry” seeks to promote the linking of experts dedicated to the basic and applied research of renewable energies with companies interested in the integral use of renewable energy sources, to give added value to their products or services.
For this project is essential that the solar technology developed in our country meets the quality standards. The above for the solar industry to offer a product or service that is efficient, reliable and durable; Contributing to the saving and efficient use of energy, reducing the dependence on hydrocarbons and at the same time contributing to the sustainable development of the country.
